Welcome to my shop! I have experience with pottery, books (and cats) and hope I can help you find what you're looking for!
The plate has 5 impressed stylized oyster shell shapes to hold the oysters and a center round dished space for sauce to dip the oysters inside it’s scalloped edges.
Oyster Plates were very popular around the turn of the century, as were the oysters to eat! This is one you will even want to use on your table. This is shown in the Oyster Plate Book by Jim & Vivian Karsnitz, and stated as being rare.
The Plate is marked "Weimer” over a Shield and also in gold script is “F” and @1072 and s/o(?)
Measurements: 8-1/2” from scalloped edge-to-edge. There is some gold loss to the edges of the plate/oysters, but no chips, or cracks. There are also two dots, almost like a pinhead under the glaze on the back, so it did come from the factory like that.
Great old German Porcelain Oyster Plate!
As always, thanx for shopping Katiques!
