This rather portly piece of turned sycamore bears a more than passing resemblance to its prey. It is a late Victorian pigeon caller. In the days when a countryman's enjoyed a flavourful pigeon pie, he used this 5 1/2" long and max 2 1/4" diameter whistle to call in his supper. It well reproduces the low cooing sound of a pigeon. Condition good. The effectiveness of this truly rural antique depends on the skill of its user.
