About Us
RETRO DELUXE on Ruby Lane is owned and operated by Huff and Judy Jones, a husband and wife team based in Eugene, Oregon. We specialize in 20th Century costume jewelry, and our own contemporary paintings. We have been selling on the Internet since 2004.

A life-long artist, Huff worked for over twenty years as a professional studio potter, painter, and teacher. Judy is a fine artist, painting primarily in oils, with a national clientele gained from working for more than twenty years as a freelance illustrator. Both have sold their work to collectors across the U.S. and in several other countries.

As a result of our education and long experience as artists, we appreciate fine craftsmanship, have a deep interest in the history of art, and thoroughly understand the principles of good design. We have happily discovered a convergence of these interests in vintage costume jewelry.

We are constantly amazed at the wide variety, high quality and extraordinary beauty of vintage jewelry. Huff is especially taken with Mid-Century Modernist designs, while Judy leans toward the glitz and Retro. However, we collect anything that is beautiful, unique or simply stands out. In vintage costume jewelry, there is truly something for everyone.

For Judy, the experience of finding a wonderful piece of jewelry, and recognizing the era, style, and designer is SO EXCITING! The detective work, the treasure hunt, the joy of adding a great piece to a growing, personal collection, and then actually wearing a beautiful, unique piece of jewelry, makes the entire process just plain fun!

The connection to history and to the people of times past is an intrinsic part of collecting vintage jewelry. The fact that each wonderful piece has its own story and was loved and worn by someone (perhaps more than one someone) long ago, adds an extra dimension, even a little touch of mystery.

HOW WE RATE THE CONDITION OF OUR JEWELRY:

MINT: The appearance of being brand new, as if it has just come out of the manufacturer's box, and has never been worn.

NEAR MINT: Almost brand new, perhaps never worn, and never stored improperly. No scratches, blemishes, dings, dents or flaws of any kind. Silver pieces may have some natural tarnishing, but they are no longer defined as Near Mint once they have been polished.

EXCELLENT: Top condition. No missing stones, graying stones, yellowing stones, chipping, fading, peeling, worn prongs or worn edges. Earring backs may be slightly worn as long as the front is still in top condition. There may be some very minor, superficial surface scratching that is almost invisible to the naked eye. Any replacement stones should be so perfect in size, cut and color that it is virtually unnoticeable.

VERY GOOD: No missing stones, no graying or dead stones, no peeling pearls, etc. Enamel may have some minor chips. The piece may have prongs or edges that show slight wear or scratching. Backs may be moderately worn. Replaced stones should be a good match in size, cut and color.

GOOD: Quite wearable and acceptable, but under close scrutiny may reveal some deteriorating foiling or minor clouding or darkening of stones, and some chipping, some yellowing and wear.
